A few years ago, I finally got tired of being out of shape. So, I got up one morning early, grabbed the box set of P90X that had been gathering dust in my closet and I put the first disc into the DVD player and started working out. Then I told one of my buddies what I was doing, and he asked if he could join me. For the next 12 weeks, the hard part was “Just Showing Up.” The rest took care of itself. We got into the best shape of our lives. It was really hard to get out of that warm comfortable bed before daylight and go to the cold garage and press play, but it was worth it! We were no longer couch potatoes. We had exceeded our expectations and were stronger and more disciplined than we had ever been in our lives. We had lost the fat, put on the muscle, and had confidence through the roof!
It doesn’t take much thought. I remember Tony Horton saying, “Get out of your head.” “Do your best and forget the rest.” In fact, I tried not to think about it. I just did it. What if we were as driven to get our souls into shape as some of us are to get our bodies in shape? Many of us sit around and think about it for months and even years without showing up. By showing up, I mean getting together with other believers and collectively following Jesus. The hardest part is showing up. It’s saying yes to God and whatever it costs you, saying no to things that keep you from moving. It is a life changer! You will look back a month later and you’ll be shocked at how far you’ve come. Each day, just putting one foot in front of the other, will take you so far that you’ll look back and scarcely be able to see your starting point. And you’ll know that you are on your way to becoming the best version of you! The funny thing is that the key to day one thousand, two thousand, and ten thousand is still the same as day one. Just show up!
